My Training Philosophy

This training is all about communication with your dog....letting your dog know in a clear and simple way what is expected of him. Imagine for a moment that you are in a foreign land where you don’t know how to read, write, or communicate with anyone around you. Maybe you have just been taken away from everyone you know and loved. You are confused and have no idea what you are supposed to be doing, and everyone around you is touching you, talking to you and trying to get you to do things. So you try, but you simply can’t do what they are asking and ultimately you end up making up your own rules and doing things your way. That is literally the way most dogs navigate through our world. I will help you change that for your dog.

Services

As an owner of two dogs and a foster of many others, I know at a very personal level how difficult it can be to find the right training for your dog. Continuing Education:

Katy  has sought out the knowledge of, and traveled to see and work with, trainers across the country in order to bring back the most effective training methods out there today.  Here are a couple seminars that she has attended:

May 2015:  Jay Jack's workshop which highlighted the history of bully breed dogs, relationship-building training techniques, information on restoring order to a household/pack after dogs have gotten into a fight and so much more.

September 2015:  Buck Branaman's horsemanship workshop.  I know, I know....horses!!  But so much of what Buck teaches about horses is applicable to the relationship  you are building with your dog.  He focuses on fair, clear, consistent communication between human and animal.

March 2016:  Heather Beck's 4 day seminar: Dealing with Difficult Dogs.  This seminar focused on dog socialization, behavior training, grooming and learning about reading dog body language.  Jason Vasconi also spoke during this seminar and did a presentation on large field socialization for dogs.

In May 2017, Katy will be traveling to Ohio to shadow and learn from another amazing trainer, Jennifer Saven.  During this time she will also be attending a two day Behavior Trouble Shooting seminar with internationally known trainer, Chad Mackin.

In addition to training seminars, Katy is continually fostering and training dogs in her own home who are awaiting permanent homes.
